Position Summary

Victoria College is recruiting for a Counselor to work in the Advising, Counseling, & Support Services Department.  This position is responsible for the effective organization, delivery and coordination of mental health services that promote comprehensive educational opportunities for all students. Serves as a resource for staff and faculty, collaborates to identify appropriate services for students.  Responsible for providing initial analysis, short-term personal counseling, and crisis intervention.  Provides oversight and management of the grant projects and related initiative.  This position is supported by funding from the Trellis Foundation. Continuation of the position after the grant end date of August 31, 2024 is not guaranteed.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Provides appropriate mental health counseling techniques to support students or appropriate referrals when out of scope of counselor’s skills or license.
  2. Assists students experiencing crisis situations on campus and make appropriate referrals.  
  3.  Contributes to an environment that is inviting and positive to enhance the delivery of student mental health services.
  4. Serves as consultant and content expert for the development of VC’s future counseling center.
  5. Serves as a site supervisor to practicum/internship students in graduate programs.
  6. Responsible for oversight of grant budget exceeding $200/k
  7. Maintains and ensures confidentiality of student documents and records in accordance with Victoria College and FERPA policies and licensure requirements.
  8. Participates in CARE Team planning, trainings and meetings.
  9. Responsible for establishing, fostering and maintaining relationships with community based mental health and counseling resources in efforts of developing comprehensive referral services for mental health services.
  10. Develops, implements, and/or coordinates programs and activities in regards to counseling support services (i.e. stress management, conflict management, sexual assault & domestic violence, etc.) in partnership with the Support Services Coordinator.
  11. Collaborates as a team member with recruiters, advisors, other Student Services staff and faculty in developing, coordinating and implementing programs to increase recruitment and retention efforts and develop strategies for all students.
  12. Administers the initiatives and expectations of the Trellis grant to include management of resources, budgetary oversight, and accountability reporting.
  13. Assists with classroom presentations, Pirate Orientations, workshops, and other college related events.
  14. Participates on committees, attends professional development opportunities in regards to specialist subjects and disseminate relevant information.
  15. Assists in the coordination of student support services provided to students with disabilities and veterans.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Advising and Counseling Services

Qualifications

  • Requires a Master’s Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field
  • Requires Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Requires minimum of four years' experience providing personal counseling, to include crisis intervention
  • Experience in supervising a counseling site will be helpful.
  • Must support and have a clear understanding of the mission of community college
  • Experience working in an educational environment and working with a diverse population including veterans and students with disabilities, is preferred
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with software, including MS Office, Internet, Banner, and email
  • Ability to accomplish business tasks, meet deadlines, and ability to learn and interpret policies and procedures
