Job Description

Dr. Sarah DeYoung seeks a postdoctoral scholar to work on an NSF Hub project: Large-scale CoPe: Coastal Hazards, Equity, Economic prosperity, and Resilience (CHEER). The postdoctoral scholar will be based in the Disaster Research Center at the University of Delaware. The scholar will work with community engagement tasks including but not limited to attending and facilitating community meetings in Texas and North Carolina, collecting mixed-methods data, supervising, and working with graduate students, manuscript preparation, quick response hurricane field research, and other aspects of the Hub.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Community Psychology, Sociology, Public Policy, Disaster Science, or a related field.

Duties include: Project management; interfacing with community-based organizations in hurricane-prone regions; data cleaning and organization; field visits and observations; supervising graduate student or undergraduate researchers; attending community meetings, deploying for quick response fieldwork and collaborating with students from other disciplines such as engineering, data analysis; writing manuscripts and preparing presentations.

Background knowledge desired: Doctoral degree in community psychology, sociology, psychology, public policy, or a related field. Knowledge of research ethics, disaster studies, community engagement, and mixed methods data collection and analysis in SPSS.

Skills desired: Training in participatory action research, strong data analysis skills, experience using and managing Qualtrics surveys; experience in SPSS; primary data collection; supervision; organization; academic writing and presenting.

This position is a 12-month position. The position is for two years with a possibility of a third year, depending on funding and project activities needed. Start date is anticipated before the spring semester, as early as January, 2023 and remains open until filled.
