The Associate Dean of the School of Health Sciences is a new position at GRCC that was created after a reorganizationÂ of Academic and Student Affairs. The Associate Dean position supports the School of Health Science throughÂ innovative, collaborative, and student-focused leadership to help shape the future of student success, academic excellence, and community impact at GRCC.
The Associate Dean of the School of Health Sciences is responsible for the management and day-to-day operations ofÂ the Health Science programs including; Nursing, Dental, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Radiologic Technology, AlliedÂ Health, and Exercise Science. The Associate Dean of the School of Health Science will foster a working environment thatÂ demonstrates a spirit of collaboration, innovation, access, and inclusion. The successful candidate will be a strategicÂ leader with strong organizational skills and a deep understanding of and experience with education in the HealthÂ Sciences or Human Services. The Associate Dean will work in cooperation with Department Heads and DepartmentÂ Chairs to develop class schedules and determine instructional workloads, support the curriculum development process,Â help to manage departmental budgets, and demonstrates leadership and oversight of faculty professional development, evaluations, and tenure and promotion activities. To successfully achieve these results the Associate Dean will need to cultivate effective and mutually beneficial relationships with faculty and administrators.
Essential Job Functions
Scheduling /Section Management/Assignment
â— In collaboration with the Department Heads and Program Directors, develop a schedule of classes and manage section offerings.
â— Assign baseloads for full-time faculty and coordinate overload selections for full-time faculty. Administer adjunct availability and course assignment process.
â— Manage room scheduling and facility needs for departments.
â— Assure the accuracy of Faculty Information Forms and contractual correctness of faculty loads. Office Oversight, Process Development & Management
â— Participate in the supervision and evaluation of office staff.
â— Propose, create, implement, and review operational procedures and processes that impact the work ofÂ Academic and Student Affairs.
â— Conduct mid-year and annual performance reviews for direct reports; review and approve evaluationsÂ for academic support staff for departments in the School.
Budget and Finance Management
â— In collaboration with the Department Heads and Program Directors, manage departmental budgets.
â— Approve payroll and leaves for staff direct reports.
Program/Curriculum Review & Support
â— In collaboration with the Department Heads and Program Directors, implement approved new courses andÂ programs.
â— Assist in fund-raising and grant development related to academic departments/programs, including Perkins,Â and assure compliance with grant provisions.
â— Collaborate with and support the Dean on curricular processes and decision-making.
Faculty Administration & Support
â— Facilitate initial orientation and ongoing support for the work of the Department Heads andÂ Program Directors.
â— Approve Faculty Leaves of Absence.
â— Administer contract provisions for faculty and direct staff reports.
â— Approve adjunct professional development funds.
â— Monitor the relationship between the School and the bookstore, particularly as it relates to the availabilityÂ of educational resources used to support classroom instruction.
â— Serves as point of contact to address day-to-day operational issues within the School.
â— Establish and maintain processes for hiring new faculty and staff, and regularly review hiring processes toÂ assure maximum effectiveness.
â— In collaboration with the Dean, make recommendations for new hires to the Provost.
â— In collaboration with the Department Heads and Program Directors, on-board and orient new faculty around professional development and first-year expectations.
â— In collaboration with the Department Heads and Program Directors, hire adjunct faculty.
â— In collaboration with the Department Heads and Program Directors, form and lead full-time faculty andÂ staff hiring committees.
â— Implement agreed-upon hiring standards.
â— Supervise adjunct and full-time faculty in their respective areas.
â— Create Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) for faculty and staff and take disciplinary action when needed- collaborating with the Dean as needed.
â— Lead and administer the Faculty Performance Evaluation and Tenure Promotion system for the School. ThisÂ includes providing orientation and training for faculty and working collaboratively with other areas at the collegeÂ to assure the effective operation of these systems.
â— In collaboration with the Department Heads and Program Directors, form and facilitate tenure and promotion committees, and make tenure and promotion recommendations to the Provost in collaboration with the Dean.
â— Conduct faculty classroom observations and provide constructive written and verbal feedback as part of theÂ evaluation process.
â— Working with Instructional Support and Department Heads and Program Directors, support program development and evaluation for the School.
â— Working with Instructional Support and Department Heads and Program Directors, overseeing course curriculum development and evaluation for programs within the School.
â— Represent the School on college-wide curriculum teams.
â— In collaboration with Department Heads/Program Directors, assure departments and programs maintain
compliance with the curricular and quality elements of institutional and programmatic accreditations.
Student Conduct and Concerns
â— Collaborate with the Office of Student Life and Conduct initiatives to attend to student misconduct.
â— Lead School efforts to effectively address student complaints and grade grievances.
â— Track student complaints for the School to identify trends and areas for improvement.
â— Work with the General Counsel, the Director of EEO Compliance, and equal opportunity labor representatives as needed to address student concerns.
â— In collaboration with the Department Heads and Program Directors, identify professional development needsÂ for faculty and staff.
â— Serve as Liaison to the Center for Teaching Excellence, collaborating on training and workshops as needed.
â€¢ Serve on cross-college teams, including the Academic Governance Council (AGC) and Strategic Leadership Team (SLT).

â€¢ Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customersÂ and performing the essential functions of this position.
â€¢ Persons in this role are identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSA's will be trained and responsible forÂ reporting Clery Reportable Crimes to Campus Police as required by the Clery Act.
â€¢ Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
School Specific Duties
â— Serve in an advisory capacity to promote and align non-credit instruction with credit programs as required.
â— Masterâ€™s degree from an accredited institution in an academic discipline offered in the School of Health Sciences, or a related field is required.
â—‹ Doctorate is preferred.
â— Minimum of three years prior experience in a role responsible for leadership and oversight of educationalÂ programming or related experience is required.
â— Supervisory experience of instructional staff is preferred.
â— Three years teaching experience in higher education is required.
â— Experience leading Health Sciences programs and accreditation in a higher education setting isÂ preferred.
â— Experience working in an industry in one of the Health Sciences is preferred.
â— Experience in a community college is preferred.
â— Experience working in a collective bargaining environment is preferred.
