The Institution: Established as a Bible institute in 1935, Corban’s mission is: “To educate Christians who will make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ.” Corban is an independent Christian university with a Baptist heritage where all faculty, staff, and students give testimony to a personal faith in Jesus Christ. The institution’s focus is the discipling of Christian students. Faculty teach and students learn with the knowledge that Christ is the creator, sustainer, and redeemer of all things. With classes taught from a biblical perspective and a Bible minor integrated into every undergraduate degree, students build a deeply personal understanding of what it looks like to be a Christ-follower in their career and culture. Multicultural diversity is greatly valued on the Corban campus. Corban seeks to equip each student with the critical thinking skills and diverse perspectives they need to thrive in a multicultural world. In addition, Corban’s reach extends beyond Salem, Oregon, as it partners with organizations across the globe, prepares second language learners for university study, and provides opportunities for students to thrive in a study abroad experience. Corban is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), and the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). Corban Warriors compete— and win—in 16 intercollegiate sports: men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, track and field, golf, and soccer, plus men’s baseball and wrestling, and women’s softball, volleyball, beach volleyball, and lacrosse. Student-athletes have demonstrated such excellence that Corban has been named an NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star Institution every year since 2008 for the school’s conduct in competition, academic focus, and character recognition and promotion.

The Position:

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the President serves as the University’s chief administrator with responsibility for the supervision of all University officers, agents, faculty, and employees and will execute the policies and standards of the Board of Trustees. As the chief administrative officer of the University, the President will coordinate the preparation of the annual budget for approval by the Board of Trustees and provide budgetary oversight on behalf of the Board once it has been approved. The President will develop strategic goals for the annual and long-term development of the University and its master plan and will provide oversight for the assessment of academic and non-academic units to accomplish those strategic goals and learning outcomes. The President will also provide leadership for fundraising and advancement programs. Accordingly, the President will encourage and foster the development of grant applications and seek external funding for University programs through corporations and foundations. The President will also represent the University at educational, professional, community, and church related functions and other public events.

The President must be in full agreement with these statements and be an articulate advocate for them. Additionally, the Board seeks a President who excels in leadership and service and believes God has called them to use their gifts and talents at Corban University. The new President must possess a deep faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior with evidence of a life filled with the fruit of the Spirit. Also critical to the Board is documented successful leadership experiences. While successful higher education experience is highly valued, Corban is open to candidates coming from other professions including business, pastoral ministry, and other nonprofit sectors. A doctoral degree is preferred but not required. Corban values and encourages qualified applicants who are diverse in ethnicity or race and seeks candidates who will interact with the Corban community in a way that reflects a commitment to cultural proficiency.
