Position Summary

 

The Foston lab in the Washington University in St Louis Department of Energy, Environmental, and Chemical Engineering is offering a post-doctoral position to investigate the heterogeneous catalysis of renewable feedstocks in particular lignin with a flexible start date in early 2023.

 

We are looking for motivated, independent candidates with demonstrated expertise in the research and development of heterogeneous catalysts for the reductive depolymerization of lignin. This will involve design of catalyst systems for real lignin in native biomass or extracted from biomass, lignin model compound experiments in batch reactors, and analytical chemistry efforts to characterize complex substrates and product mixtures.

Required Qualifications

 

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with lignin analysis with solution 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) as well as analysis of lignin depolymerization products with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is an asset.
  • Track record in project management, preparing complex data for publication, and publishing in scientific journals.

 

Salary Range

 

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
