Summary of Position

The Child Development Center at Keene State College invites applicants for an Early Childhood Teacher in the infant / toddler classroom to work in partnership with the center staff to achieve highest standards of quality for children, families, and college students. This is an 86%-time, benefited position with appointment dates from mid-August to mid-June.

The Child Development Center (CDC), located on the Keene State College campus in Elliot Hall, is a demonstration early childhood education site for Keene State College students, practicing professionals, and young children and their families. The Center strives to model best practices by offering nurturing environments where young children are encouraged to explore, to be creative, to cultivate positive relationships, to experience the joy of learning, and to develop a sense of community.

The CDC is a dynamic learning community dedicated to providing excellent practical experiences for students studying to be teachers or a related profession with young children. Undergraduate and graduate students are offered supervised experiences under the guidance of early childhood professionals, in the direct education and care of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. Through collaboration, the CDC staff contributes to an educational environment that encourages professionalism, growth, and diversity. Under the guidance of the Director of the Child Development Center, the successful candidate will demonstrate best practices in early childhood education while contributing to a warm, nurturing environment which fosters secure and trusting relationships between teachers, children, and families. While being actively involved in the Child Development Center’s learning community, the Early Childhood Teacher will plan, implement, and model best practices in early childhood programs for children, families, and college students. They mentor, assist in the supervision of college students, and create and participate in mutually supportive and respectful relationships between all members of our community. The ideal candidate will possess strong social and collaborative skills, and will have a keen understanding of an emergent, play-based curriculum, and an appreciation for the benefits gained therefrom.

Other minimum qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Family Studies, Elementary Education or related field with at least 18 credits in Early Childhood Education, including 3 credits in child development; experience teaching children birth to 5 years; demonstrated communication and organizational skills; sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this position, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

1-3 years of years of experience lead teaching children birth to 5 years old; teaching experience in a laboratory early childhood center, NH Credential, Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification. Additionally, the College has identified desirable qualifications that support our commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse campus community including the ability to speak a second language or to bring a multicultural perspective to the campus.

Salary Information

Starting salary range: $34,420-$38,750, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, retirement, tuition, and paid time off. This position is part of the Keene State College Staff Association (KSCSA).

Plan and implement best practices in developmentally appropriate curriculum. Model appropriate and nurturing child guidance. Observe, assess and record children’s progress and maintain children’s records, including for special education. Foster positive relationships with team members, children, and families. Maintain a clean, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment that reflects best-practice and models excellence. Mentor undergraduate students and assist in their training and supervision.

Engage with each family, maintain on-going communication with classroom families including daily communications, regular written communication, planning and conducting parent conferences and parent education events.

Attend CDC staff meetings, and participate on committees and special projects. Follow and uphold all procedures and policies of the Child Development Center and Keene State College. Ensure supervising and teaching with the most updated professional knowledge and information by attending conferences, workshops and keeping current with course literature. Assume administrative designation in director’s absence.
