The Board of Directors of Elmcrest located in Syracuse, NY is seeking an exceptional candidate for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The successful candidate will replace the incumbent CEO who will retire on June 30, 2023. The new CEO will report directly to the Elmcrest Board of Directors.

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the overall management and strategic vision of the organization. The CEO is expected to be an effective leader, communicator and spokesperson who will embody the core values and mission of Elmcrest in all interactions within the organization and the community at large.

The Elmcrest Mission: Founded in 1845 Elmcrest is a community of caring professionals providing supportive services to children with a variety of emotional, behavioral, and developmental limitations. The Elmcrest experience focuses on developing meaningful relationships in a teaching and learning environment that enables children, regardless of age, gender, or circumstance to reach their optimum potential, have a productive future, and contribute to the success of their community. With an operating budget of $27 million and employing 500 full and part-time employees Elmcrest is one of the largest, non-profit, social service agencies in Central New York. Situated on a bucolic145 acre campus, Elmcrest provides residential therapeutic services for130 youngsters with serious mental health issues. Additionally, campus services include an early intervention program, a universal pre-K program and a respite center for families of children with developmental disabilities. Off campus, 20 different Elmcrest community programs provide support services to approximately 2500 children and their families. Expectations and Duties: The Chief Executive Officer will possess a high level of business, management and financial skills. Working in conjunction with the CFO, the CEO will be responsible for the financial and structural sustainability of the organization while ensuring Elmcrest maintains compliance with all government regulations. Additionally, the CEO will provide leadership in furthering a strategic vision for Elmcrest in tandem with the Board and the community. The ability to communicate and collaborate with the talented and diverse Elmcrest management team is a priority. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of successful engagement with donors, volunteers and other community members in order to advance the agency and its evolving mission. In all matters the CEO will be committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of inclusion and diversity.

Qualifications: Master’s or more advanced degree in Social Work, Education, Health or Public Affairs preferred. At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a human service organization, with experience in managing a complex organization. The successful candidate must also demonstrate competency in working with a board of directors and have proven fundraising experience.
