Detailed Job Description

The Rochester Institute of Technology seeks a dynamic leader to serve as the Program Director of the Biomedical Sciences BS program, one of nine degree programs in the College of Health Sciences and Technology. The faculty of the Biomedical Sciences program are engaged teachers and researchers, preparing students for medical school, graduate programs, and research careers in the biosciences.

As the administrator of the Biomedical Sciences program, reporting to the Department Head of Medical Sciences, Health, and Management, the program director will oversee long-term development of the program, ensure that scheduled courses enable students to meet learning outcomes, oversee program assessment, make recommendations regarding curriculum and program goals, support the faculty through annual performance reviews of teaching, service, and scholarship, and mentor junior faculty through the tenure/promotion process. They will publicize the program and coordinate with campus partners to recruit students and conduct community outreach activities, explore articulation agreements with graduate and professional programs, guide students with respect to program requirements and other curricular issues, and maintain connections with alumni. This is a nine month appointment with additional summer stipend available.

Department/College Description

RIT’s College of Health Sciences and Technology is poised to transform the quality, safety, and affordability of health care. By combining technology and medicine, the college seeks to educate 21st-century healthcare professionals, develop new patient-focused programs and systems, effectively assess community needs, and develop and apply innovative healthcare delivery practice. The educational programs in the College of Health Sciences and Technology build on a foundation of liberal arts and basic sciences. Students gain advanced knowledge in theoretical science and practical applications in experiential learning environments. These experiences prepare students to serve humanity as practitioners, scientists, and leaders through their contribution to, and the provision of, high-quality patient care, healthcare service, and/or applied translational biomedical research.

Envisioned as an opportunity to develop new approaches to better enable and prepare healthcare practitioners to take advantage of the future of technology embedded care and support, the College of Health Sciences and Technology consists of 3 academic units: the Department of Clinical Health Professions, the Department of Medical Sciences, Health, and Management, and the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition and offers BS degrees in Biomedical Sciences, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Exercise Science, Nutritional Sciences, and Physician Assistant (BS/MS) and graduate degrees in Health Systems Management (MS), Health and Well-Being Management (MS), Dietetics and Nutrition (MS), and Medical Illustration (MFA).

Enrollment includes 518 undergraduate and 74 graduate students. Of those students, 5.7% are deaf/hard-of-hearing. Over 30% of students are diverse with 11.7% identifying as Asian, 7% African American, 7.2% percent Hispanic, and 4.7% mixed race. The college includes 29 full-time faculty, 5 research and visiting faculty, 2 postdoctoral fellows, and 18 clinical psychology interns. The college is supported by 14 staff.


Required Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or similar qualification) in an area of Medicine or the Biomedical Sciences that pertain to the human body.
  • 3 years of administrative leadership experience (academic, industry, etc.) in a related field.
  • 3 years of college teaching experience at the graduate or undergraduate level in a related field.
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
