Summary of Position

The Department of Biological Sciences at Plymouth State University (http://www.plymouth.edu/biology/) invites applications for a full-time Tenure Track or Teaching Faculty position in Anatomy, Physiology, and Cell Biology beginning August 2023. The department includes majors in Biology, Environmental Biology, and Cell and Molecular Biology and engages students from many disciplines across campus in active scientific inquiry. We seek a dynamic, enthusiastic individual who is committed to teaching excellence, research involving students, and collaboration with other faculty within and beyond our Academic Unit. The candidate will also be expected to advise undergraduate students and provide service to the university. Teaching Faculty teach 30 credit hours per year. Tenure-track Faculty positions teach 24 credits per year. Both are full-time, 9-month, benefitted positions. Our location in the foothills of the White Mountains offers spectacular year-round scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities.

Additional Job Information

The successful candidate will primarily teach an upper-level Cell Biology course for majors and Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II for Biology, Allied Health Science, Nursing, and related majors. Opportunities exist to teach an additional Biology course in a topic of interest and participate in the General Education program. All members of the Biological Sciences also provide academic advising for majors and participate in our capstone Biology Seminar course. Beyond teaching, all faculty participate in service activities to support the department, university, and community. Tenure track candidates also participate in scholarly pursuits, including but not limited to, publication of research findings, scholarship of teaching and learning, and involving undergraduate students in research.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

  • Teaching Faculty position: M.S. is required by August 2023

  • Commitment to innovative, student-centered teaching methods
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Tenure Track position: Interest in conducting research involving students

  • Experience teaching Human Anatomy & Physiology or Cell Biology
  • Diverse interests or academic background and enthusiasm for creative, collaborative endeavors with faculty and students across disciplinary boundaries
  • Knowledge of instructional technology and innovative course delivery strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with a wide variety of learners, including first-generation students
  • Grant writing potential/experience for tenure-track candidates

Duty/Responsibility

Teaching Cell Biology for majors and Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II for Biology, Allied Health Science, Nursing, and related majors. Additional teaching responsibilities could include an upper-level Biology course of interest to the faculty member and participation in the General Education program.
