The Department of Economics & Finance at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Economics.
The home campus for this position is Bloomsburg with the expectation of serving a multi-campus university within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
About the Department:The Department of Economics & Finance at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania is housed within the AASCB accredited Zeigler College of Business. It offers a B.A. in Economics, with tracks in General Economics, Business Economics, and Political Economics, a B.S.B.A in Finance with concentrations in General Finance and Personal Financial Planning, and minors in Economics, Finance, Personal Financial Planning and Real Estate Finance. The department serves approximately 300 majors across all majors, offers courses within the business core for the Zeigler College of Business, general education credits to be taken by all students, and Business Administration (MBA) program offered by the Zeigler College of Business.
About the College:The Zeigler College of Business is an AACSB accredited business school serving more than 2000 majors across the three campuses of Commonwealth University. The college offers majors in more than 15 fields of study. The Zeigler College of Business places an emphasis on professional development for students. The Zeigler Institute for Professional Development provides students with professional development opportunities and hosts a conference each fall.

Essential Duties

 
Specific Duties
The Department of Economics & Finance at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Economics. The appointment will begin in August 2023. The Department will consider applications in any field, but preference will be given to: Law and Economics, Economics of the Middle East, Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, Urban and Transportation Economics, Political Economics, Public Economics, Behavioral Economics, and Experimental Economics.

Economics faculty are expected to teach general education and business core classes in service to the college and university, which include Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Business and Economics Mathematics, and Business and Economics Statistics. Economics faculty are also expected to teach elective courses within their areas of expertise based on the needs of the department and may have opportunities to teach Intermediate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, and Introduction to Econometrics.

Economics faculty are also expected to provide service to the department, college, and university, which includes (but is not limited to) undergraduate advising and participation in committees.


The successful candidate will need to complete distance education training programs as made available by the University within two years of hire for the purpose of teaching in a multi-campus environment with remote teaching needs.

Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Qualified candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Economics (or be expected to complete their Ph.D. by August 11, 2023).

 

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to qualified candidates with an earned Ph.D. in Economics and who have demonstrated the ability to work with diverse populations, excellence in teaching as evidenced by peer and/or student evaluations, and research productivity and/or the potential for continued scholarly growth and productivity in their field of study.

Finalist(s) for this position must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process and teaching demonstration as judged by the majority of regular, full-time Economics faculty.
Recommendation for hiring is needed from a majority of the regular, full-time department faculty.
 

Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and criminal background.
Completing this search is contingent upon student enrollment and available funding.

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional provided the “Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form” and verification of your three background checks are returned to the Human Resource office prior to your hire date.
