Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Associate Director, Information Technology. Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Infrastructure OIT, the Associate Director provides management oversight to the Enterprise Data Centers Infrastructure and Operations (DCI&O) group within the Office of Information Technology, Enterprise Infrastructure Division. This group operates centralized IT Enterprise Data Centers on multiple campuses providing administrative, academic, clinical and research colocation services for the Rutgers University compute environments.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for providing technical and managerial supervision to the DCI&O group in all facets of its operational and developmental role within Enterprise Infrastructure.
  • Provides technical leadership in Data Center management in support of the University’s strategic goals.
  • Provides operations, processes and support for central IT as well as University department colocation customers, associated RFP’s, operational needs, and any other data center-related requirements.
  • Participate in the management of the budgets for the group through oversight of billing for services, budget preparation, cost scenarios, resource requirements, workload planning, and group training and development.
  • Performance Evaluations of the staff
  • Assist the University Director with the preparation and delivery of various reports/strategic planning/setting goals/making recommendations in all areas of Enterprise Infrastructure, and assist with data center requirements to meet the Enterprise Infrastructure system needs of the University community.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible technical experience and Information Technology management experience.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A solid foundation in IT service delivery, Service Level Agreements, contract management, project management and supervisory experience.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and management of data center and disaster recovery environments with demonstrated ability to research, plan and successfully implement IT services that consistently deliver value to the overall organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of data center design concepts, with a minimum of five years of experience in data center management oversight. Experience with assessing solution options and executing business plans compatible with budgetary and time constraints. Broad technical background including a strong understanding of technology trends, evolving standards and ability to assimilate and assess implications.
  • Experience in developing and managing information technology projects to meet the needs of a large organization, as well as in handling the multiple roles of liaison, consultant, and planner, especially in building consensus.
  • Ability to successfully develop and implement policies and standards in a large complex organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills and a proven ability to work in a complex team-based environment. Proven ability to engage and negotiate with technical solution vendors to provide expertise and services not readily available within the group.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills including the ability to guide, mentor and develop staff members. Possess and utilize strong interpersonal, organizational and process management skills in order to evolve organizations into highly productive, efficiently functioning work units.
    Requires technical knowledge of industry standard compute equipment, recovery services, operating condition requirements including power and cooling, working knowledge of data center infrastructure components and their interaction in complex configurations.
  • A strong commitment to the concept of excellence in service is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Regular participation in industry and Higher Educations forums, conferences and workshops regarding IT service delivery in general and data center infrastructure and services in particular. Good working knowledge of data center power distribution, cooling, security, life safety and monitoring systems, platform amd recovery services.
  • Project outcomes are expected to be of superior quality.
  • Strong communication, customer service and strategic planning skills are desired.
  • Solid understanding of centralized service offerings and a commitment to unparalleled customer service.
