Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Project Coordinator I for Rutgers Global Health Institute. This position will support new and ongoing NIH-funded research projects. These studies aim to understand relationships between enteric disease, dietary intake, and child health and development in coastal Ecuador. The research assistant will support project administration by maintaining ethical approvals within Rutgers and at collaborating institutions. They will also support the development of questionnaires and protocols, coordinate with collaborators in Ecuador to support data collection, and use software such as R or stata to ensure data quality.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Manages study administration at Rutgers and collaborating institutions, including ethical review board approvals and financial management.
  • Designs and maintains version control for study instruments such as data collection forms, protocols, consent forms, recruitment scripts, and informational materials. Use Open Data Kit (ODK) to develop and maintain study surveys.
  • Administers and maintains study databases. Creates data dictionaries and data cleaning processes. Helps update databases weekly as new data is released. Uses statistical software such as R or stata to develop reports and summarize study data for investigators.
  • Travels or remote communication with collaborators in Ecuador to assist in training and oversight of field staff. Communicates regularly with field and laboratory staff in Ecuador to support ongoing activities.
  • Conducts quantitative or qualitative data analyses, prepares scientific manuscripts and contributes scientifically to the project.
  • Scheduling project meetings & maintaining meeting notes.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • A Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in epidemiology, international health, environmental health, global nutrition, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with Stata, R, or other statistical analysis software for data management and analysis, experience in quantitative or qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Highly motivated and organized, with excellent multi-tasking ability and record keeping skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a research team.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and oral and written communication.
  • Advanced knowledge of data management for public health research, biostatistics, and background understanding of the design and implementation of public health research studies is required for successful completion of the functions described.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Discipline with 1-3 years related experience.
  • The ability to speak and write in Spanish at an intermediate level or higher is preferred, because the position will require communication with collaborators in Latin America.
  • Prior experience living or working in resource limited, low- and middle-income country settings is preferred but not required.
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Working in an international field site requires the ability to walk a few miles without difficulty, to manage without air conditioning in a tropical setting, or to manage without potable water for a few days at time.
Special Conditions
  • The position may require occasional international travel to resource-limited settings, such as Ecuador.
