UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry seeks applicants for a full-time (1.00 FTE) tenure track faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic and Biomedical Sciences . The position will be available January 2023.

The successful candidate will show evidence of research expertise in oral and/or craniofacial research through an established record of publications and externally-funded research in areas that complement current initiatives in the Center for Craniofacial Research (CCR) and the Powers Center for Biomaterials and Biomimetics (HCBB). The successful candidate will have considerable research expertise in oral and/or craniofacial research with a focus on innovative elements of research leading to technology development. A track record of successful collaboration across disciplines is essential. The position is highly competitive about salary, start-up funds, and laboratory space. Applicants must have one of the following degrees or equivalent: Ph.D., DDS, DDS/Ph.D. 

Position key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Developing and maintaining an active line of funded research in an area consistent with the topics above

• Writing grants and securing funding for new research as Principal Investigator (PI) and/or Co-PI

• Contributing to scholarly literature via peer-reviewed publications and presentations

• Leading teams of researchers in grant writing and scholarship

• Conducting research that builds on current research lines and initiatives from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.

• Leading research teams in executing rigorous research that meets funding agency requirements and project milestones

• Having the vision to integrate their research into the ongoing projects of the CCR and/or HCBB

• Participating in ongoing, collaborative research projects with existing faculty members.

• Participating in faculty grant review/feedback meetings

• Serving as an active and visible member of the American Association for Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research and/or other relevant professional organizations

• Serving as a research mentor for trainees including dental and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and/or residents

• Contributing to appropriate teaching responsibilities consistent with the mission of the department and school

• Contributing to relevant service opportunities consistent with the mission of the department and school

Qualifications:

• Ph.D., DDS, DDS/Ph.D. or equivalent degree and postdoctoral training in biological science or bioengineering, with a research focus in oral and/or craniofacial research

• Eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor

• Demonstrated record of a sustained independent research program and success in securing federal funding supporting an active research program, preferably from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research

• Publications in peer-reviewed journals with impact factors placing them in the upper tier of their specialty

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong potential for a leadership role within the department and research centers, and collaboration across research disciplines

• Demonstrated history of mentorship and training of research trainees

• Commitment to the role of the School in teaching the next generation of dental professionals

• Commitment to excellence, discovery, service, and being on the path to being outstanding in their field of expertise and share an interest in fulfilling the common goals of the School of Dentistry at UTHealth Houston and the University as a whole

The School of Dentistry is one of six schools in UTHealth Houston  and is located in the world’s largest medical center, the Texas Medical Center . This unique environment offers significant and unique research resources. In May of 2012, the School of Dentistry moved to a new, state-of-the-art 314,000-square-foot full replacement building, including the new Denton A. Cooley and Ralph C. Cooley University Life Center. The research facilities are new and state-of-the-art, including imaging, genomics, proteomics, histopathology cores, cell culture facilities, and pre-clinical models.
