HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to MHRP. 

The Laboratory of Integrative Multiomics, led by Dr. Rasmi Thomas, uses cutting-edge next-generation sequencing technologies to identify variation in genes involved in host-pathogen interactions. We are at the forefront of developing these technologies for analysis of transcriptomes of single cells and detection of transcripts from intracellular pathogens in the same individual cells. The group integrates transcriptomics with other ‘omics’ datasets, such as proteomics and epigenomics, to gain insight into the mechanisms underlying disease acquisition, pathogenesis and response to vaccination. (https://www.hivresearch.org/our-team/rasmi-thomas-phd ) Individual will learn skills such as; Next-generation sequencing, 10 Genomics single cells assays, Cell surface protein expression, Epidenticis, B cell receptor sequencing, and TCR sequencing.

Responsibilities:

  • We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow candidate with a molecular biology or immunology background to investigate host restriction factors in infectious diseases, including HIV-1, dengue and zika, in the context of natural infection, treatment, and vaccine studies.
  • The successful candidate will have experience designing and carrying out molecular and cellular biology assays to test given hypotheses.
  • Experience with immunology or virology will be an advantage.
  • This position provides an opportunity to work independently to conduct research projects using single cell multiomics technologies to address questions critical to military and world health.
  • Conducts research in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff within our group. (30%)
  • Performs complex data analysis and interpretation. (30%)
  • Develops and documents methods and procedures for experiments and data analyses. (30%)
  • Prepares research data for presentation at scientific meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals. (10%)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures.
  • Experience designing and carrying out molecular and cellular biology assays to test given hypotheses.
  • Knowledge of appropriate scientific area
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to meet deadlines of projects, multi-task and work independently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Next-generation sequencing skills preferred.

Work Environment:

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree
  • Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.
  • All HJF employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
