Job Description


The Office of the Associate Vice Dean for Research supports all aspects of research being conducted at USC Marshall. This involves increasing research productivity by making it easier for our faculty and students to conduct research as well as increasing the visibility of this research by disseminating its insights to a broad set of audiences that includes academics, business leaders, and the public. To accomplish this, the Office maintains a variety of research-related initiatives but also continuously looks for novel ways to promote research at Marshall.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Working with the Associate Vice Dean to schedule, organize, and coordinate all aspects of supporting research at Marshall, such as creating and running research workshops to increase research productivity
  • Track and manage activities and programs of the Office, including ongoing initiatives such as research talks and workshops as well as developing new initiatives and workshops
  • Work with the Associate Vice Dean to create and deliver workshops for faculty to increase research productivity
  • Work with the Associate Vice Dean and other units at Marshall to increase the visibility of faculty research through initiatives and events such as research fairs and the creation of promotional videos
  • Partner with Alumni Relations and Marshall Executive Education to connect faculty to firms and alumni for joint research projects 
  • Work with Marshall IT to create and maintain a website to bring together research resources for faculty members
  • Partner with Associate Vice Dean and the iORB Institute to develop initiatives to support faculty research
  • Manage relations with all vendors related to the creation and delivery of initiatives and events, including vendors for data, supplies, and catering
  • Track and monitor assigned budget expenditures for the Office and provide regular updates
  • Develop infrastructure to increase Postdoctoral researcher opportunities as well as research collaboration opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills, and relationship building skills. Must be able to keep all parties informed of project progress
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing priorities and fluctuating workloads
  • Experience in a higher education and research environment, preferably in the area of business. Directly related program management experience a plus
  • Experience interacting and communicating with senior administration and faculty as well as outside audiences and vendors
  • Proficient skills in word processing and use of spreadsheet software (Excel)
