Position Summary
The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking energetic, organized and detail-oriented applicants to join our Clinical Trials team as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. The incumbent will serve an ongoing research agenda in the area of identification, treatment and prevention of pediatric scoliosis. The position is housed in the department of orthopaedics with strong collaborations and support with other basic science and clinical departments across the university including biomedical engineering, radiology, exercise and sport science and others. Projects funded through internal and external sources in addition to unfunded development/pilot work are primarily in the area of musculoskeletal modelling using various imaging modalities, clinical outcomes and translational research. Strong communication skills across medical disciplines and ability to interface with an interdisciplinary research team are requisite. Strong writing and presentation skills with evidence of manuscript publication, abstract submission/presentation and competitive grant application experience is strongly preferred. This is a fixed term position for up to 4 years based on successfully achieving study aims and availability of funding.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in engineering, biomechanics, physiology, or related field with interest/expertise in musculoskeletal research, modelling, and data analytics. MD candidates will be considered with strong research experiences. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The candidate must have very strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills, and must be able to work independently. It is essential that the candidate be able to analyze and interpret institutional and regulatory policy and procedural guidelines and apply those appropriately. The candidate must have demonstrated experience and/or ability in organizing workflow and coordinating multiple tasks. Strong writing skills and a history of abstract presentations at professional conferences and published manuscripts in top peer reviewed journals and competence with database management, data analytics and statistics.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Clinical background is not required but will be considered if experiences are relevant to pediatric orthopaedics. Advanced competency with MS Office, database / entry interfaces (ie REDCap, medidata, etc). Experience and competence with electronic medical record (ie EPIC). Prior experience with grant writing, submissions / awards.
