Med-Surgery - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (22008683)
 

The position is for a Research II, Animal Care Technician. The incumbent will provide surgical and technical support for large animal procedures performed by the Starzl Transplantation Institute in pre-clinical research. The support will include, but is not limited to, anesthesia induction and monitoring, post-operative animal care, blood draws, drug therapy, chart maintenance, and animal ordering and transportation. The individual will also be responsible for the maintenance and repair of surgical equipment, which includes surgical instruments, anesthesia equipment, tethering systems, and monitoring equipment. The Animal Care Technician will also order and maintain supplies necessary to perform surgical procedures and post-operative care and procedures. The individual will be trained to perform minor surgical procedures such as cut downs, wound closures, etc. and assist with training of postdoctoral fellows and students.

The applicant should be highly motivated to learn, detail-oriented, able to prioritize multiple tasks, and work independently. This individual will collect, organize, and analyze medical and research data. Sound judgment, strong analytical skills, and exceptional interpersonal skills are a must.

 

Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology or related discipline and a minimum of two years of experience as a veterinary technician in surgical procedures and post-operative care in a biomedical research-based facility. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
