Position description

The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology in the Rausser College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) seeks applications for a faculty position in plant biology (senior leadership, open discipline). This position may be filled at the tenured Associate or Full Professor level. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

We seek an exceptional scientist with an internationally recognized research program in modern plant biology, such as plant development, physiology or evolution, or plant responses and adaptations to the environment and climate change. Scientists whose research program has agricultural applications are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will serve as the Scientific Director of the Plant Gene Expression Center (PGEC; https://pgec.berkeley.edu/ ), a unique collaboration of the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology (http://plantandmicrobialbiology.berkeley.edu/ ) at UCB. As Scientific Director, they will be responsible for managing the UCB-related program and resources of the PGEC including research, funding and staff. They will join a dynamic and collaborative department with faculty whose research spans diverse areas of plant and microbial biology including cell and developmental biology, genetics and genomics, plant-microbe interactions, photosynthesis, metabolomics, synthetic biology, ecology and evolution, applied microbiology, fungal biology, algal biology, and virology. UCB has exceptional strengths in plant biology, with opportunities for interactions and collaborations with other biological sciences departments on campus, the Innovative Genomics Institute (https://innovativegenomics.org/ ), Energy Biosciences Institute (https://energybiosciencesinstitute.org/ ), the Graduate Group in Microbiology (http://pmb.berkeley.edu/ggm/faculty ), and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (https://biosciences.lbl.gov/ ).

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD or equivalent international degree at the time of application.
