Position Summary | The Observatory on Social Media (OSoMe) at Indiana University – Bloomington invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow (one year term with renewal available for up to 3 years). The annual salary is $55,000-$65,000. The position includes standard benefits at Indiana University commensurate with those for faculty members, such as health, vision, and dental coverage, along with participation in a retirement plan. The mission of the Observatory is to study the media and technology networks that drive the online diffusion of dis/misinformation. OSoMe offers access to data and tools for researchers worldwide to uncover the vulnerabilities of the media ecosystem and develops methods for increasing the resilience of citizens and democratic systems to manipulation. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work closely with Filippo Menczer and other researchers at the Observatory on modeling the spread of harmful misinformation on social media. Basic Qualifications | We seek applications from scholars whose research addresses the intersection of computing, network, data, and media sciences. The ideal candidate will have received a Ph.D. within the last 6 years in computing, informatics, or comparable area of research. The Fellow will be expected to maintain an active research profile; to conduct independent research on significant projects in the areas of online information diffusion and manipulation; to present work in progress at professional conferences and sponsored workshops; and to assist with the development of funding proposals and scientific papers. A solid record of publications, as well as strong coding and data analytics skills are a must. Good communication and writing abilities are highly desirable. Preference will be given to interdisciplinary candidates whose research profile clearly links them to the Observatory.
