South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is seeking a postdoctoral research scientist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering to work in the South Dakota Mines Energy Storage Laboratory (ESL), https://sd-mines-energy-storage-laboratory.webnode.com .
The overarching goal of the ESL is to tackle challenges in the current generation and to foster innovations for next-generation electrochemical energy storage devices and systems. We collaborate with researchers and scientists at various organizations, such as universities, research institutions, labs, and industries to bring scientific and technological solutions and innovations to real-world applications. One of the major missions of the ESL is to train, mentor, and foster undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who will become next-generation leading engineers, researchers, and scientists in the field of energy storage research and development.
The research interests of the ESL, in the field of electrochemical energy storage, include a wide range of research areas, such as next-generation primary lithium batteries, next-generation rechargeable Li-ion batteries, and various beyond-Li-ion battery chemistries with various designs and configurations. The scope of our research includes fundamental, material-level studies and integrated, cell-level investigations and optimizations.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong, hands-on battery research experience supported by a strong record of publications, good English communication skills (oral and written), and good teamwork spirit. Battery modeling experience is a plus. The postdoc is expected to take a leadership role in various research activities, such as writing research proposals, project execution/reporting/management, writing high-quality scientific research papers, and presenting research results at scientific conferences. The postdoc is also expected to help mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the ESL.
A PhD degree in physical or chemical or materials science, mechanical or chemical engineering, or a related field is required. This is a regular, benefited position with a possibility of extension, dependent upon performance, funding availability, and ESL and the ME department needs.
