Position Summary

Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Clay Semenkovich in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Lipid Research at Washington University School of Medicine. The Semenkovich lab uses cutting-edge technologies, including genetic manipulations, super-resolution microscopy, next-generation sequencing, lipidomics, and proteomics. The goal of the lab is to understand mechanisms responsible for the complications of abnormal lipid metabolism and diabetes. The ideal candidate will have opportunities to drive impact within a highly collaborative team environment and be encouraged to conduct interdisciplinary research that has potential for the development into independent projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting.

  • Prepares and submits papers on research.

  • Assists in the design of research experiments.

  • Evaluates research findings and assists in the reporting of the results.

  • Maintains conscientious discharge of their research responsibilities.

  • Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research.

  • Maintains compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records.

  • Engages in open and timely discussion with their mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.

  • Maintains collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.

  • Adheres to all applicable university policies, procedures and regulations. All data, research records and materials and other intellectual property generated in university laboratories remain the property of the university.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in physiology, cell biology, biochemistry or a related field.

  • Strong experience in molecular biology demonstrated by publication in reputable journals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience with mouse physiology and/or being familiar with basic techniques in cell and molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry.

  • Demonstrated ability to implement laboratory procedures, conduct research and records findings.

  • Experience in mouse handling and surgery and willingness to learn these techniques.

  • Skill in independent analytical thinking, experimental design, troubleshooting, and the ability to effectively communicate with the laboratory staff and investigators is highly desired.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
