POSITION SUMMARY

The Regional Sports Director is responsible for organizing and implementing all youth and adult sports, and all other assigned special events for multiple branches. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1) Organize and implement all youth and adult sports programs.

2) Supervise and schedule practices, games and all personnel required at each event, including filling in as referee for games when needed.

3) Recruit, hire, train, schedule and supervise all volunteer and paid staff associated with branch sports functions.

4) Design and develop marketing materials for each program.

5) Conduct evaluations of each program.

6) Prepare and manage the annual budget for the assigned areas within approved budget guidelines.

7) Carries out all association policies concerning management, administration and accounting procedures.

8) Communicates positively and effectively with all participants, volunteers and staff, including timely response to phone calls and requests for information.

9) Substitute for subordinate staff as necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises all employee in the Sports Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1) Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2) Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, children, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts or percentages. Ability to compute averages and weighted averages. Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

3) Ability to communicate effectively across all segments of the community. Ability to positively resolve conflict between all combinations of staff, participants and parents.

4) While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; run; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds.

5) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

6) While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

7) CPR/AED, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen training required upon hire and must remain current throughout employment.
