The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Part-Time Instructor, Biology.

Las Positas College, a community college located in Livermore, CA, is looking for part-time instructors for the part-time instructor pool.  We are regularly looking to staff classes such as: anatomy, physiology, non-majors anatomy and physiology, introductory biology (for health majors).

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules.
  2. Create and maintain an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking.
  3. Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  4. Meet with students outside of class periodically (office hours).
  5. Evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters.
  6. Grade student’s work.
  7. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  8. Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
  9. Maintain accurate academic records.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s in any biological science OR Bachelor’s in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Applicants applying under the “Equivalent” provision must provide details that explain at time of application how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degree listed above.

 

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Ideal candidates will have community college experience or experience being the instructor of record in lower division courses.
  2. Experience teaching in person and/or in a hybrid format.
  3. Evidence of understanding or and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of the community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.
