Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and Great Basin College (GBC) seek a strategic, collaborative leader for the Executive Director, Finance and Administration position. The Executive Director, Finance and Administration is responsible for directing, planning, managing, and overseeing the activities and operations of GBC’s budget, accounting, grants, and business operations services.
 
This position reports to the President of Great Basin College while maintaining strong collaborations with administrative counterparts at the University of Nevada, Reno divisions.
 
Great Basin College engages in many shared service initiatives with the University of Nevada, Reno, covering most finance and administrative areas. The Executive Director will be the liaison and point of contact for business shared service activities, ensuring coordination with UNR business operations.
 
The Executive Director manages the preparation, ensures accurate college-wide operational and personnel budgets, and provides activities that function efficiently and comply with policies and procedures. The Executive Director manages a team and works to create a cohesive and diverse team, ensures operational effectiveness across functional areas, and helps shape the college culture.
 
Location
This position can be based in Reno, Elko or any of the following locations: Battle Mountain, Ely, Pahrump, or Winnemucca.
 
Travel
Travel is anticipated to be approximately 25% of time.
 
This position is anticipated to travel to/from Reno, GBC’s Main Campus in Elko and other locations throughout Nevada. Travel, primarily by vehicle, with possible overnight stays.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and participate in the development, preparation, coordination, and presentation of the College budget, capital improvement budget, and internal fiscal control measures; develop and present financial forecasts and historical information; monitor operation expenses; exercise fiscal control
  • Collaborate with UNR Planning, Budget and Analysis budget office during the budget development process, manage and prioritize requests for changes to department resource allocations and communicate critical information to campus and other stakeholders
  • Synthesize and analyze financial information and trends, develop and maintain multi-year financial planning model for College funds and provide alternatives to inform effective decision-making and planning
  • Prepare and support a long-range strategic fiscal plan for the College
  • Ensure that all fiscal reports are completed timely and accurately
  • Oversee the daily monitoring/reconciliation of College accounts; ensure fiscal compliance with all regulations
  • Collaborate with human resources for salary budget planning
  • Oversee the submission and monitoring of special course fee account requests prior to submission to Planning, Budget & Analysis
  • Ensure compliance with restrictions on gift, endowed and grant funds
  • Determine the need for services, develop contract specifications, administer contracts, ensure contract compliance, and review performance of work
  • Analyze, identify and implement business process efficiencies, including development and implementation of internal processes and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Liaison and point of contact for business shared service activities, ensuring coordination with UNR business operations
  • Provide strategic operational, fiscal, grant management, guidance to College administrators
  • Develop a consistent, rigorous and transparent process to evaluate requests for operational resources, priority setting and strategically allocate resources across the organization
  • Create and implement procedures which promote and sustain effective and efficient operations
  • Meets regularly with administrators to ensure alignment and integration that advances strategic priorities of the College
  • Serve as a liaison with administrative counterparts for campus partners (Facilities, Safety, Security, etc.)
  • Provide input for accreditation processes
  • Represent College on UNR shared service teams
  • Directly supervise and manage financial and grants and contract administration
  • Maintains an effective and cohesive organizational structure to accomplish the organization’s objectives; recruits, trains, leads, develops, mentors direct reports, and evaluates their performance
  • Prioritize inclusivity, diversity and equity in executing key responsibilities
  • Participate in college and system-wide committees as appropriate.
  • Occasional travel throughout the state with possible overnight stays, with or without accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Act
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and six years of related experience.
 
Related Experience: Leadership in a related environment to include fiscal planning, policy formation, managing resource allocations, budget preparation and employee management.
 
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Prior work experience within a higher education environment.
 
Compensation
Annual salary range is $80,000 - $100,000 commensurate with experience and education.
