Software Development Researcher for M&S of Unmanned Off-road Vehicles

A postdoc position to start immediately is available in the Engineering and Innovative Technology Development Group at the University of Alabama at Birmingham to design and implement a real-time computational co-simulation environment for a distributed modeling and simulation of unmanned off-road vehicles.� This position relates to ongoing research projects funded by the US Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center in conjunction with collaborative applied research pursued by the NATO AVT-341 Committee on Mobility Assessment Methods and Tools for Autonomous Military Ground Systems.��

Selection for participation in this project will provide an excellent opportunity to work with a wide range of cutting-edge commercial M&S software, modular autonomy components, and off-road vehicle and terrain computational models.� The postdoc will also be working with domestic and international teams of researchers from both academia and industry, to collaboratively develop and deploy enabling software technologies for the US Army's Next Generation Combat Vehicle program.

Summary of Skills/Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong background in software development�
  • Experience with software architecture design
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary engineering teams

Preferred

  • Experience developing and/or deploying real-time software frameworks�
  • Experience developing and/or deploying unique integrations of disparate modeling and simulation tools
  • Experience using simulations to train and/or evaluate autonomous vehicle performance
  • Experience with Unreal Engine, Autonomy with ROS, Multi-body Dynamics and/or Sensor M&S tools

The position is initially for one year, but it is possible to renew it for one more year or be converted to a full-time staff member. Anticipated Annual Salary Range: $50k-$90k (based on combination of experience and education)
