Job Summary:

The Senior Vice President for Community Development leads a team that advocates for and supports the people, businesses and stakeholders of Center City Charlotte, recognizes the value of great urban places, is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and approaches everything they do with passion, innovation, tenacity and excellence. The SVP of Community Development helps drive the vision of a Center City that is welcoming and equitable, economically vibrant, culturally rich, a beloved place for all, and a leading force for healthy regional economy.

The Senior Vice President for Community Development for Charlotte Center City Partners (CCCP) is a key member of the organization's Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and leads a team of three full-time direct reports and leaders. Together, they build community and manage the place in Uptown and South End through strategic communication, convening, organizing, advocacy, programming, and placemaking. They will leverage the collective resources and relationships of CCCP to advocate on behalf of and in support of residential and business stakeholders. This position works closely with the Center City Ambassador team and is responsible for selected special projects.

The SVP for Community Development must be seen as integral to the community, with connections to stakeholders that go beyond a 9-5 job. They are responsible for the following activities including, but not limited to:

  • Active enterprise leadership on the Executive Leadership Team, helping create policy and strategic direction for the organization
  • Create, manage, and track the program of work and budget for Uptown and South End Community Development work and teams
  • Identify infrastructure needs and work with our teams and partners to improve the quality of life for all our stakeholders (residents, employees, employers, guests, property owners, small businesses, etc.)
  • Project manage and lead specific special projects to completion
  • Create an urgency and creative focus on public safety for all through partnerships in Uptown and South End
  • Evaluate and lead advocacy for Uptown and South End business owners and residents
  • Maintain a focus on education partnerships, including higher ed, public and private schools
  • Advocate for improving transit and transportation issues in support of all constituents in Uptown and South End
  • Manage and develop the Community Development team
  • Evaluate and manage contracts for specific Community Development initiatives (including the Center City Ambassadors)

This work requires strong relationships with public agencies including City of Charlotte Planning, Transportation, Economic Development, Engineering, and Code Enforcement, Charlotte Area Transit System, Mecklenburg County, State DOT, and elected officials, but it also requires partnership with individual residents, neighborhood leaders and private sector partners.

Requirements:

· Ability to present regularly to the organization's Board of Directors

· Ability to present to external partners

· Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues on ELT to support key business priorities

· Participate in the annual planning of the organization’s program of work

· CCCP is not a remote/hybrid work organization. Our teams work in the place. However, we believe in flexibility, and rely on ELT to manage schedules for themselves and their teams appropriately

· All CCCP employees, contractors, and interns are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the CDC, unless a request is granted for an exemption due to disability, documented medical condition or a sincerely held religious belief. Upon start date, “fully vaccinated” includes having available booster shots.

Experience

· At least 5 years of work experience in direct or related fields is desired.

· A 4-year degree is required and a Masters’ degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred.

We are wearing masks currently, all visitors will wear masks. We have touchless technology and partitions between all workstations. We provide PPE if needed. Through the summer, we will work a hybrid schedule.
