Description

The Department of Statistics in the Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This search is in the area of computational and applied mathematics (CAM). The successful applicant will be appointed in the Department of Statistics and become a member of the Committee on Computational and Applied Mathematics , joining other Statistics faculty who support the PhD and MS programs in CAM at the University of Chicago.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: By the time of hire candidates must have completed all requirements for the PhD in applied mathematics, mathematics, statistics, or related field to computation and applied mathematics.

Preferred qualifications: at least one year of teaching experience as a TA or instructor of record and at least two years as a postdoctoral researcher.

  • statement describing past and current research accomplishments and outlining future research plans;
  • teaching statement (which should include information about the candidate’s teaching and mentoring activities, teaching philosophy and goals, and should also, where possible, include a description of the candidate’s experience in teaching and mentoring students, research or teaching assistants, or postdoctoral fellows, and in fostering their learning and ability to do research; the teaching statement may also include relevant experience in teaching and mentoring students from a diversity of backgrounds, if applicable);
  • three confidential letters of evaluation.

The following materials are optional:

  • up to three sample publications.
