Organizational Unit Overview | Research, Economic Development and Engagement (REDE) is responsible for research policy and integrity, research administration and contract negotiations across ECU for both the main campus and the health sciences campus. REDE directs new intellectual enterprises, including technology transfer. Industry, military and government agency research partnerships and community engagement and economic development activities across the eastern half of North Carolina are also managed by REDE. REDE is responsible for the following units under its umbrella: Office of Research Administration, Office of Human Subjects Protections, Office of Research Integrity & Compliance, Office of Research Development, Office of National Security & Industry Initiatives, Office of Economic & Community Engagement, Office of Innovation & New Ventures, Office of Continuing & Professional Education, Office of Licensing & Commercialization, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Office of Undergraduate Research, and the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee. The Office of Continuing & Professional Education (CPE), a unit within Research, Economic Development and Engagement, builds bridges between East Carolina University and the public by providing access to non-curricular professional development resources that engage, educate, and expand learning opportunities. The focus of the Office is to provide high quality non-credit professional development to business, industry, the military, public sector organizations, and other entities for developing a suite of offerings that advance regional transformation and economic development opportunities in eastern North Carolina and other regions. |
Job Duties | This position works in the Continuing and Professional Education unit of REDE and reports directly to the director for Continuing and Professional Education. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage day-to-day operations for both the Continuing Professional Education and Lifelong Learning programs. The position will contribute to increasing enrollment and revenue and provide support services for adult learners. Candidates should possess good communication and writing skills along with the ability to problem solve, work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, complete assignments in a timely and accurate manner, and to maintain electronic and paper records. Effective communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the public are necessary. Candidates will work occasional evenings, weekends, and overnight travel as needed and will occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Providing excellent customer service is a critical component of customer satisfaction and success. The University Program Specialist will provide timely, courteous, solutions-based customer assistance for all CPE programs. This customer service includes answering the phones, monitoring and answering the departmental email accounts, accepting payments for courses, providing customer service at in-person events, and developing and maintaining relationships with clients and supporters. |
Minimum Education/Experience | Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
License or Certification required by statute or regulation | None |
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education | Master’s degree in adult education, instructional technology, or curriculum design. At least two (2) years of experience in course design, curriculum, and/or training. Demonstrated success in planning and/or coordinating events, preferably in a college or university setting. Familiarity with continuing and professional education and lifelong learning programs. Excellent program coordination and management, communication, and human relations skills preferred. |
