Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Artificial Intelligence Institute (AI) within the College of Engineering and Computing seeks to fill the position of Post-Doctoral Fellow whose interests are gaining additional training in research, mentoring, and professional development to promote competence in a research career in academia or industry. The post-doctoral fellow will receive training at the AI Institute at UofSC, under the mentorship of its director, Professor. Amit Sheth. The post-doctoral fellow will:
  • Perform research in Semantic Web, Smart Internet of Things/Web of Things, Image and Video Analysis, Semantic Web enhanced Software Engineering.
  • Use Applied Research in Internet 4.0 or Smart Manufacturing, Cloud and Edge Computing, Cyber-Physical Systems to execute research efforts
  • Perform Research in prototyping and evaluation, Research Project Management, Proposal Development Support.
  • Assist and write publications (writing, related travels), technical presentations, mentoring of Junior research students.

PhD in Computer Science or Computer Science & Engineering must be earned by start date.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Demonstrated success in high-quality publications in the field of candidate’s expertise. Demonstrable knowledge of three or more subjects of relevance to activities identified at AI Institute at UofSC with the emphasis on technologies that can support interdisciplinary AI research in smart manufacturing, edge AI, digital health involving Internet of Things (IoTs), and disaster coordination involving analysis of sensor, image, and video data. The candidate should have high interest in being trained for a future research career and should have expertise with experimental research, software development methodology, evaluation, data collection, and analysis with scientific thinking. The candidate should have strong technical writing skills as evidenced by dissemination including publishing in high quality venues in the candidate’s main research area, open sourcing, and demonstration. Strong programming and systems expertise need, including (a) competency in one key language, preferably Python, (b) artificial intelligence/deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, Python ML libraries, etc.), and© cloud computing and backend technologies.
