Mountain Gateway Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge. This full-time 11-month position will serve as a one-stop resource in the Alleghany and Bath County High Schools. The career coach will coordinate career assessments using Wizard, write career plans, and will serve as a resource to guidance counselors and other staff in career counseling. The career coach will assist with college placement and will integrate work based learning experiences into the position including employability skills and soft skills training. The position will make connections with business and industry pathways including the promotion of certifications in CTE courses. This position works closely with high school and community college stakeholders to help secondary students easily transition to postsecondary education. This person will learn about all programs at the college including transfer and non-transfer degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates. This person will assist with acclimating new career coaches to the position and to the expectations and requirements by the VCCS for reporting purposes. This position will assist the Director of Student Services with program management.

Minimum Qualifications
KSA’s
- Experience administering and interpreting assessments
- Knowledge of Career Pathways programs
- Knowledge of best practices related to career development services
- Knowledge of MGCC programs
- Experience using career coaching strategies
- Experience working with underserved/underrepresented populations
- Experience in academic and career advising
- Ability to gather and analyze data
- Command of the English language both oral and written
- Excellent computer skills
- Ability to be a team player including maintaining confidentiality
- Effective communication and team building skills
Education and experience
Bachelor’s Degree, related professional experience or considerable higher education and/or professional work experience
