Overview
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Associate I Supervisor for SEBS-Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). Reporting to the RCE, NJ Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), Sr. Program Coordinator, this grant funded 12-Month Program Associate I (PA I) SPVR position housed in Hudson County provides professional leadership, management, supervision and support for EFNEP projects in Essex, Passaic and Hudson Counties that utilize a paraprofessional (Community Assistant) model for the delivery of research-based, behaviorally focused nutrition education classes to both adult and youth limited-resource participants. The goal of the education provided is to help program participants improve their food security, dietary quality, physical activity, and food safety behaviors.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Supports volunteers in the delivery of educational outreach.
  • Provide direct oversight to the Community Assistants in Hudson County, and secondary oversight, primarily classroom observations, for other Community Assistants in the Northeast Regional Unit (i.e., Essex and Passaic Counties).
  • Responsible for recruiting agencies willing to host the program and will serve on appropriate boards and councils in the community to maintain a strong presence for the program.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, and University outreach and budget guidelines with regard to all activities that occur within the project.
  • Responsible for various reports designed to document the project’s success.
  • Serves as a role model for his/her staff and maintains a professional demeanor and confidentiality at all times.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, in nutrition, public health, or a related health sciences subject area appropriate to the position responsibilities, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience (including some supervision) post degree or equivalent experience.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience working with the public and evidence of effective public relations skills.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Excellent computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet)
  • Proficient in video conferencing platforms (Zoom, WebEx, Google Meets, Google Classrooms, Microsoft Teams)
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and public speaking
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Accurate, excellent budgeting and financial management skills
  • Seasoned negotiation philosophies and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with limited-resource, culturally diverse audiences
  • Ability and willingness to work in a consistently high-energy, high-pressure atmosphere
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to quickly assess situations, think broadly and logically, make appropriate decisions that account for broad consequences, and act swiftly
  • Ability to evaluate teaching skills of paraprofessionals and support staff, and provide proper supervision and management of staff and volunteers
  • Ability to train agency staff and volunteers
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities with accuracy

Preferred Qualifications
  • Registered Dietitian
  • Fluent speaking, strongly preferred writing, and reading in Arabic
Equipment Utilized
  • Excellent computer skills including familiarity with website maintenance, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Email), video conferencing platforms (Zoom, Google Meets, Google Classrooms, etc.) and Internet. A government supplied reporting system to data entry information will be needed for nutrition classes.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Willingness to use personal vehicle to travel to various worksites throughout New Jersey
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Ability and willingness to work in a consistently high-energy, high-pressure atmosphere.
  • Must be able to travel using own vehicle.
