Job Description Summary:
Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and who have opted to pursue further training in a postdoctoral appointment. Postdoctoral scholarship is a time-limited appointment, the primary purpose of which is to provide research and/or scholarly training for an academic or research career. A postdoctoral scholar at KUMC is expected to: Participate in a full-time regimen of advanced training and research, train under the supervision of a faculty research mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent research, as well promote publication of findings and preparation of research grants as determined by a mutual agreement between the postdoctoral scholar and the mentor, participate in relevant academic activities related to the preparation for a career in research or academia, participate in the University’s Individual Development Plan policy for postdoctoral scholars, have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree (such as MD, DVM, PsyD, PharmD, etc.), and candidates should have strong English skills and demonstrate an ability to write and communicate with a scientific audience. Candidates must be able to independently plan, multi-task and complete projects. Ideally, the fellow will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze data, write and prepare independent grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publications, and supervise graduate students. Postdoctoral position to study molecular mechanisms and signaling events controlling trophoblast stem cell development and differentiation and organization of the hemochorial placenta (Biol Reprod 99:196-211, 2018; PNAS 118:e2016517118, 2021; PNAS 118:32111267118, 2021; PNAS 119:e2210633119, 2022).
Job Description:
Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in reproductive or molecular biology, a strong work ethic and a commitment to becoming an independent scientist.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skills: Experience in embryo handling and manipulation techniques, or human trophoblast and placentation.


Job Duties Outlined:

  • Research the regulation of trophoblast cell development using in vitro and in vivo models.

  • Participate in the generation and characterization of mutant rodent models for investigation of trophoblast cell development.

  • Prepare written and oral reports on research progress and participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication.

  • Actively apply for Postdoctoral Fellowship funding from various sponsors, including but not limited to The Lalor Foundation, K-INBRE (internal KUMC) and NIH F32.

  • Assist in training other postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research assistants in techniques used for the investigation of trophoblast-uterine interactions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director
