Position Summary

The Department of Pathology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine (https://pathology.unm.edu ) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor to build and sustain an active research program in cell biology with special emphasis on cancer biology, stem cells and niche biology, the tumor microenvironment, or immune responses and immunotherapy. Applicants with research programs in basic biomedical research, novel imaging approaches, systems biology, neuropathology, or mechanobiology are also encouraged to apply. Departmental research programs focus on cancer cell biology and signaling, development and application of advanced biological imaging technologies, infectious disease mechanisms and immune interactions, drug discovery and clinical translation. Department cancer-related research programs are aligned with the NIH NCI-designated UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center (http://cancer.unm.edu/ ).

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Ph.D. or equivalent
  • Postdoctoral experience
  • Impactful publication(s) in the areas of scientific interest
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Independent research program, or strong potential for obtaining R01 or equivalent funding, as evidenced by funding history, high quality publications, and research plan
  • Currently working in an area of cell biology where interests and expertise have potential for research interactions and collaborations with department members
  • Evidence of successfully working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated experience in education and training activities (e.g., mentoring, teaching, etc.)
  • Evidence of applying cutting edge research technologies for a unique research breakthrough
  • Expressed interest in leveraging institutional core resources
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

The successful candidate will benefit from opportunities for membership and access to the exceptional Shared Resources of the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, and interdisciplinary programs that include faculty from four basic science departments, and other clinical departments, such as Internal Medicine and Ob/Gyn.

Appointment will be in the Department of Pathology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will develop a rigorous and independent research program and participate in departmental activities including graduate school teaching.
