Description
The Department of Biology in the College of Science and Mathematics invites applications and nominations for the position of Postdoctoral Associate. Founded in 1906, Georgia Southern University is a Carnegie Doctoral/R2 institution with a focus on public-impact research, serving about 27,000 students on three beautiful campuses in Statesboro, Savannah, and Hinesville, and via a growing online program. Through our degree offerings at the associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels, Georgia Southern offers a distinctive combination of community collaboration, world-class scholarship, innovative teaching, and hands-on learning opportunities. To equitably serve a fast growing and highly diverse student body and to fulfill the University’s commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, we actively seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to Inclusive Excellence. Candidates whose work furthers the institution’s goals and who bring to campus varied life experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. Within this setting, we seek a creative and innovative postdoctoral researcher to join new Department Chair, Georgianne Moore, PhD, in the Department of Biology at Georgia Southern University. Dr. Moore’s research investigates an array of topics, including the role of forests in climate change and the water cycle, stress-induced tree mortality, recovery after climate extremes, carbon dynamics, tree ecophysiology and tree hydraulics. Georgia Southern provides new opportunities to expand this research into areas of global change related to coastal wetlands and maritime forests, sea level rise, and/or longleaf pine restoration. We are particularly interested in scholars to help with key new efforts around coastal sustainability. Research projects will continue in tropical montane forests of Costa Rica with new opportunities to develop study abroad programs for students to experience the biodiversity and expand their understanding of global change to the tropics. Candidates with research interests and prior experience in ecohydrology, plant ecophysiology, and blue carbon are encouraged to apply. Position Description. In line with Georgia Southern University’s mission to develop teacher-scholars and promote student success, successful candidates will be expected to teach one biology class per semester, in addition to leading research projects around the impacts of climate change on ecosystems.
