Job Summary

The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in Genomics, beginning August 2023. We are seeking applications from outstanding researchers with innovative research programs in the biological sciences which rely on computational, data sciences, bioinformatics, or other related disciplines. Research in any area of genomics will be considered. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the potential to establish an independent, externally funded research program involving our Biological Sciences undergraduate and/or graduate students. Purdue University places particular emphasis on responsible conduct of research and research ethics. All Purdue researchers are required to complete general and field-specific training in the responsible conduct of research. A Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in genomics or closely related field is required.


Teaching Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and/or graduate-level genetics courses, including but not limited to supervising Graduate Teaching Assistants in genetics labs, teaching biology lecture courses for undergraduate majors, and developing upper-level elective courses based on the candidate’s area of expertise. Faculty are expected to participate in student advising, as well as service to the department and university. Our department offers both thesis and non-thesis MS degrees, with our new faculty applying for graduate faculty status with Purdue University West Lafayette. Position is contingent upon available funding and satisfactory background check.


The Department

The Department of Biological Sciences is the largest department in the College of Science. We currently have 350 outstanding undergraduate majors and 40 graduate students. More than half of our undergraduates pursue graduate or professional degrees after graduation. The department has extensive facilities for its teaching and research programs. Candidates will enjoy a highly collegial and collaborative scientific environment in the Department of Biological Sciences, with faculty and staff representing a diverse range of expertise. Candidates will also enjoy engaging in an interactive community of scientists in the College of Science and in other colleges and schools at Purdue Fort Wayne. Our researchers also collaborate with Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM-FW) researchers, located on our Purdue Fort Wayne campus, and have opportunities to leverage collaborations with other researchers across the three Purdue campuses.
