- Advise students on the two internship pathways offered at KSC 1. Independent Experience (not for credit) and 2. For Credit Experience (internship where a student receives course credit).
- Offer to students and recent alumni career development advising and counselling including career exploration and self assessments connecting academics to careers, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, career and job market exploration, and search strategies.
- Connect student interests to possible classes, majors, minors, and discuss cocurricular options for exploring interests.
- Advise students in course registration process during course registration and orientation for both current and incoming students.
- Provide to current students and alumni in person and virtual academic advising through appointments, drop in hours, and events. Using internship best practices, promote the value and process of internships through classroom presentations and events and mentor and guide students to career success. Discuss internship opportunities and preparation through individual student appointments and classroom presentations.
- Identify learning outcomes, opportunities, and assessment goals to maximize student learning from internship engagement.
- Evaluate internship value (credit and non-credit) toward degree requirements and career aspirations.
- Prepare students to successfully obtain post-graduate opportunities such as internships, jobs residencies, graduate school, working abroad, and educational opportunities.
- Coach students and alumni on identifying their aptitudes, academic and career interests, and guide them in achieving their set goals.
- Provide on-going coaching and advising to students during internship.
- Work one on one with students on internship search and application process including resume and cover letter writing.
- Provide academic and career advising (use Handshake, LinkedIn, Navigate, Self Service, Colleague, You Science, Focus 2, and StandOut)
- Apply the social cognitive theory and appreciative advising to the KSC career development model.
- Develop and maintain relationships with KSC academic departments and faculty to promote internships.
- Collaborate with advising team for training and networking.
- Serve as a SASS counselor on duty for advising, time management, and general study skills.
- Provide guidance to peer career advisors.
- Refer students to campus and community resources.
Duty/Responsibility
- Promote the value of internships and experiential learning opportunities to students.
- Promote internship advising and resources.
- Conduct employer outreach in conjunction with the Internship Coordinator.
- Develop appropriate resources and associated website content.
- Coordinate events for employers who host KSC interns
Duty/Responsibility
- Manage internship registrations/reports.
- Assess risk and levels of compliance to ensure safe internship sites.
- Send affiliation agreements, NH DOL approvals, onboarding requirements (background checks, drug screen). Additional communication as needed to meet requirements.
- Oversee, coordinate, and troubleshoot all internship experience from application to completion for students, employers, faculty, registrar, and other campus constituencies.
- Monitor KSC online job and internship portal, Handshake for accuracy and effective utilization.
- Contact employers, as needed, to clarify Handshake postings.
- Collaborate in offering career services events and programming which supports the goals of the program.
- Coordinate with other KSC offices and departments on campus.
- Conduct evaluative assessments of internships
- Record all advising and career services.
