Director of Student Life

 

 

Position Summary: 

The Director of Student Life plans, implements, and coordinates both college-wide and campus life programs that is reflective of the needs of a diverse student population for all JSCC students. College-wide co-curricular programming includes a strong student leadership program, comprehensive activities, special student events, student clubs and organizations, student government, and orientation components that develop and support a student-friendly climate. This is a 12-month position, working year-round to deliver comprehensive student life co-curricular programming.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to develop, provide, and coordinate diverse programs and activities on campus such as: student leadership development programs, cultural events, student government, student clubs, lectures, and co-curricular learning and assessment activities
  • Supervise staff, club leaders, and volunteers
  • Provide leadership and advisement to students and student organizations
  • Support and encourage student interest, participation, and involvement in College and campus life
  • Plan, advertise and promote College and campus events, clubs, student government, and other activities
  • Participate in state-wide student life events and activities to ensure coordination of events for the campus
  • Coordinate orientation, campus tours, and other functions that support the needs of students and prospective students
  • Coordinate the use of facilities by vendors, campus organizations, and community groups
  • Work with faculty and staff to develop programs that capitalize on the interrelationships between student development, instruction, and student success
  • Develop tools to assess Student Life and Student Learning Outcomes for Co-curricular events and programs
  • Participate in the development, implementation, coordination, and supervision of overall program goals, objectives, activities, and budget
  • Provide direction and support to students, student organizations, and student government by facilitating opportunities for leadership development through campus activities, events, and advocacy
  • Develop and supervise peer mentoring program for all incoming students.
  • Use technology regularly to deliver service and programming to students
  • Develop and lead initiatives for career exploration and development.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and model leadership in this area

 


Required Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree with experience in coordinating student programs and experience with student clubs and or mentoring programs. One year of program coordination and co-curricular assessment experience related to college or university-level student life or student services and Valid Tennessee Driver's License (or ability to acquire) OR Candidates who possess similar minimum objective qualifications should describe in detail the work experience and education you regard as establishing the equivalency

 

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Student Affairs

• Supervisory principles for overseeing student employees

• Solid technology skills and an openness for learning new technology modalities

• Federal, state, and local laws and regulations impacting the delivery of Student Affairs, Student Life, and Student Services

• Solid understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices

• Record-keeping using automated systems and software

• Event planning, scheduling, promotion, and coordination

• Budget development and management

• Basic principles and techniques of supervision and training

• Working with diverse student populations

• Strategies for learning and instructional principles and techniques

• Superior customer service

• Coordination of Orientation

• Public speaking

• Clear, concise verbal and written communication

• Meet deadlines while performing multiple tasks

• Experience in developing and establishing programs from scratch

• Prior peer mentoring experience

• Development and maintenance of positive interpersonal relationships

 

Pay Rate: $45,191 - $56,489 Annual salary depending on eligible experience which is defined by the current compensation plan.
