Job Description Summary:
Engineering of novel cell lines and cell culture experiments in core setting, including expansion, mycoplasma testing, gene targeting, clonal outgrowth, colony propagation, freezing, and chromosome counting. Cell culture responsibilities will also include reprogramming to iPSC from biopsy and cell differentiation experiments. Molecular studies using PCR genotyping and recombinant DNA methods for procedures pertinent to cell culture experiments. Assist in support procedures for the generation of genetically modified animals in research core laboratory.
Job Description:
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field. Experience in mammalian cell culture and sterile technique in a research laboratory setting. Experience with nucleic isolation, PCR, and other molecular biological techniques in a research laboratory setting. Strong work ethic, effective communication skills, and willingness to work in a dynamic collaborative environment.   Demonstrated ability to conduct research and to work in a group setting with minimal supervision. Basic computer operation skills, including word processing and data input.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years work experience in an active research laboratory setting. Master’s degree in biological sciences or related field. Pluripotent stem cell culture experience.  Knowledge of database management.  Understanding of regulatory aspects of research.  Knowledge of genetics, genetic engineering, developmental and reproductive biology, and cancer biology. 


Job Duties Outlined:



Genetic manipulation of cell lines.  Maintenance and differentiation of cell lines via extended culture experiments with minimal supervision.



Molecular biology experiments including use of CRISPR genome editing tools under minimal supervision. Analysis of PCR reactions.  Analysis of DNA sequencing.    Isolation of nucleic acids and protein and their analysis.  Design and generation of constructs using recombinant DNA methods.

Communicate with Director, staff, and diverse collaborators for experimental design planning and strategies.

Work in coordination with other members of the lab staff to maintain adequate laboratory supplies as instructed by supervisor.  Coordinate with supervisor in regulatory paperwork regarding research compliance.  Effectively work with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research staff.

Weekend work will be required.

Performs other duties as may be assigned by Director.
