Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for technical support to the JPSS life-cycle data reprocessing project. This position is full-time with an initial appointment for one year, and subject to annual renewal based on performance and the availability of funding.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Work with the JPSS Reprocessing Working Group together and coordinate with the JPSS SDR/EDR teams to complete the planned reprocessing activities;
  • Coordinate with NCEI/CLASS and JPSS teams to specify data file format and metadata, develop software tools to complete post-processing of the reprocessed data following the specifications;
  • Work with a team to deliver the reprocessed JPSS data to CLASS in semi-operational mode, monitor daily progress, and coordinate with NCEI/CLASS to control the data flow according to maintenance schedule;
  • Prepare user manual for the reprocessed JPSS data, and provide technical support in response to user requests;
  • Evaluate the quality of reprocessed data; and
  • Investigate potential applications of reprocessed data in climate study.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Geoinformation Science, Atmospheric Science, Remote Sensing or closely related fields;
  • Solid working knowledge of Linux system;
  • Proficient in bash scripting in Linux;
  • Familiar with HDF5 file format and related software;
  • Work experience in using Python, Java or C/C++ for processing of SDR data with HDF5 format;
  • Proficient in data processing, visualization, and analysis with IDL, Python or MATLAB;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; and
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in parallel computing on Linux clusters; and
  • Knowledge of earth system and climate change.
