Job Description

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available immediately to participate in a NIH-sponsored research project, developing nanoparticle-based vaccines, in the department of Biological Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. The successful candidate will closely work with Dr. Chenming (Mike) Zhang on assembling various nanoparticles as potential vaccines. Animal tests of the vaccine candidate will be carried out. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to be involved in grant writings, graduate student mentoring, and project leadership. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled. The initial appointment will be for one year with possibility for extension based on performance. Competitive salary will be commensurate with candidate's experience.


Required Qualifications

A doctoral degree in biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, biological systems engineering, or related scientific or engineering field earned no more than four years prior to the effective date of the appointment with a minimum of one year of eligibility remaining.
Self-motivated individual who shows initiative and creativity
Good communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with nanoparticle fabrications and characterizations
Experience with biomolecule (protein, lipids, etc.) processing
Experience with chemical conjugation
Experience with animal tests
Excellent writing skills


Salary Information

Commensurate with Experience
