General Services Technician I

Job Description

Class Description

The purpose of this position is to perform professional level duties in assisting in the coordination and completion of daily General Services operations in the Facilities Management department. 

Minimum Requirements

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Two (2) years minimum of experience in general services, or similar operational, environment (i.e. Mail Operations, Shipping & Receiving).
  3. Previous supervisory experience.
  4. Flexibility and ability to change shift when requested.
  5. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record of less than five points on driving record.
  6. Ability to participate in Blood Bourne pathogens training within six months of employment.
  7. Hepatitis B vaccination or a signed waiver.

Background Check:

  • Candidates may be required to successfully pass a background investigation, to include fingerprint and criminal history evaluation.
  • Candidates may be required to successfully complete a pre-hire, post-offer   physical examination.

This is an Essential Position and the employee must be available for building emergencies, and to perform regular duties or other assigned duties at times when the campus is closed to students and non-essential staff.  Subject to 24-hours standby or call-in for building emergencies.  May be required to work overtime or special hours as needed or required.

Position Specific Essential Duties

This position has an emphasis in one of three areas within the General Services functionality of Facilities Management; though, is that the expectation that position is interchangeable based upon need and direction of supervisor.

Mail Services

  1. Maintains current understanding and compliance of United States Postal Service Regulations and procedures.
  2. Operates scales, postage meter, computerized postage machine and other mail equipment; including, but not limited to performing preventative maintenance on equipment.
  3. Oversees the mail operations, including pick-ups, sorting, interoffice/ overnight/special mail campus delivery and coordinates the courier operations between the college campus locations.
  4. Administers the outgoing private-carrier portion of the express/overnight delivery process.
  5. Maintains records on incoming and outgoing mail and postage used in the operation of mailing equipment.  Completes written reports as required/ directed.
