Summary of Job Duties:

*This position is exposed to laboratory mice*
A Post-Doctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Amy Sato at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology to study mechanisms of action of excess of glucocorticoids on the musculoskeletal and cardiac systems with and without the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) disease state.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology or related field required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with gene expression at the RNA and protein levels.

  • Must be willing to work with and be trained for working with mice for live experiences, breeding, dosing, and handling mice.

  • Molecular biology techniques, like PCR, Q-PCR, gel electrophoresis, and restriction digestion.

  • Familiarity with Cell culturing experience, working with cell lines and Western Blot Assays.

  • Familiarity with bioinformatic online tools, like online tool for primer design (Primer3, Primer BLAST and OligoCalc).

  • Ability to design new experiments, implement, analyze, and discuss the results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Musculoskeletal phenotyping in mice.

  • Mouse breeding, mouse colony maintenance and data bases and genetically modified mice genotyping.

  • Drug administration by subcutaneous, intravenous, and intraperitoneal injections and gavage.

  • In vitro cell culture experience/ knowledge.

  • Quality control and statistical analysis.

  • Experience in musculoskeletal phenotyping, including Dexa imaging, micro-CT, histomorphometry, mechanical testing, muscle isolation, cell culture, and molecular techniques (RNA, cDNA, qPCR, Western Blots).

  • Experience in breeding of genetically modified mice, mouse colony data base generation and maintenance, genotyping, and global and tissue/cell specific conditional knock out mouse models.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Use a combination of in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro approaches at the tissue, cellular, and molecular levels, to analyze the action of the GC hormones and potential pharmacological interventions that prevent their damaging effects.

  • Perform quality control and statistical analysis of the data, including one-, two-, and three-way ANOVA analyses, two-factor repeated measures ANOVA, ANOSIM, and four parametric logistics curve analyses.

  • Contribute to the interpretation of results, the writing of abstracts and manuscripts for publication, and grant proposal preparation.

  • Train and supervise graduate students, technicians, and summer students. 

  • May perform other duties as assigned.
