Full Job Description

  • Administrator: Director of Communications, Design
  • Required Experience: Knowledge of web-based and social media platforms, digital marketing strategies and content production.
  • Preferred Experience: Development and execution of strategies that integrate best practices in social media marketing, user experience, search engine optimization, copywriting for the web, and paid ads for search and social media. Design and photography a plus.
  • Education Required: Baccalaureate degree in a related field and 1+ years of experience
  • Overtime Status: Exempt, not eligible for overtime
  • Full Time Equivalent: 1.0 FTE, eligible for full benefits
  • Work Status: in-office position in Bozeman, MT with opportunity for hybrid after first 3 months

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Digital Media Specialist (Specialist) of the Montana State University Alumni Foundation (Alumni Foundation) is a key member of the Communications team, supporting all Alumni Foundation units in social media and web content. This position supports development and implementation of social media strategies, advancing brand awareness, generating traffic and encouraging engagement. The Specialist collaborates with all Alumni Foundation units, the Communications team (content creators, editors, designers, analyst) and campus partners to create and leverage content that advances the Alumni Foundation mission. Some weekend work and/or travel may be required. The Specialist reports to the Director of Communications, Design.

Breakdown of duties:

  • 60% Creation and posting of social media and/or web content
  • 25% Collaboration and strategy development with Alumni Foundation team members
  • 15% General communications and marketing support

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaboratively develop and execute a social media strategy to increase visibility among existing followers and attract and engage new followers.
  • Oversee the Alumni Foundation's presence across all social media properties, building and cultivating a vibrant community while maximizing brand equity, engagement, site traffic and lead generation.
  • Apply social media and digital best practices to projects and formulate recommendations to help drive business outcomes.
  • Work with the Digital Marketing Analyst to regularly provide feedback and data-driven insights gained from social media monitoring to evolve communications strategies.
  • Collaborate with campus communications partners and adhere to University Communications policies and practices.
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, technologies and applications.
  • Monitor social media accounts for posts that pose harm to the brand and/or raise issues that should be brought to the attention of leadership.
  • Assist Communications team in analyzing and improving website to optimize user experiences.
  • Conduct search engine optimization/search engine marketing integration, as needed.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with internal clients to help meet individual goals.
  • Assist Communications and/or other Alumni Foundation staff on projects and events as needed.
  • Affect and maintain a professional, proactive, positive, highly collaborative, and performance-centric work environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to collaboratively map out a social media strategy and then drive that strategy.
  • Understanding and application of digital marketing best practices.
  • Willingness to learn Communications platforms and systems in order to back up colleagues; pitch in and help wherever needed.
