Position Summary

The Orthopaedic Research Laboratories (PI: Audrey McAlinden) in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University in Saint Louis, has an opening for a post-doctoral research associate effective immediately. The post-doc will work on NIH-funded studies to investigate the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in cartilage and bone development and homeostasis.


Research will involve utilizing approaches to modulate miRNA expression in vitro to determine effects on skeletal progenitor cell differentiation. There will also be opportunities to elucidate miRNA function in vivo via analysis of new transgenic mouse models as well as pre-clinical animal models of osteoarthritis, heterotopic ossification or fracture repair.


You will join a multidisciplinary orthopaedic research laboratory (audreymcalinden.org ) which is part of the Washington University Musculoskeletal Research Center (MRC (musculoskeletalcore.wustl.edu/ ).

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in cell/molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or related field.
  • Experience or willingness to work with transgenic mice and pre-clinical mouse models.
  • Expertise in RNA biology and/or bioinformatics approaches to analyze large data sets.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
