Position Summary

We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to work in the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. This position will focus on the development and improvement of novel diffusion basis spectrum imaging (DBSI) with an immediate application tailored for clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer. The candidate will work closely with faculty in Departments of Radiology and Urology to perform basic research in advanced diffusion MRI modeling and its clinical applications.

The project is a collaboration among Eric Kim, M.D. of Urology, and Joseph Ippolito, M.D., Ph.D. and Sheng-Kwei Song, Ph.D. of Radiology. This multidisciplinary combination of physicians and scientists ensures interactive hands-on training in the applied basic and translational sciences. The Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) is one of the top Radiology departments in the world. MIR is a preeminent research institute, with excellence in magnetic resonance imaging, optical imaging, PET tracer development and translation, and imaging informatics/big data. Division of Urologic Surgery provides leading-edge urologic treatment at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children's Hospital, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, Christian Hospital, and Alton Memorial Hospital. The Clinical Research and Data Management group within the Division of Urologic Surgery comprises the clinical trials section and the data management group. Thus, the candidate will have plenty of opportunity to work in both basic and clinical research projects to establish their future research career.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D., or equivalent degree, in chemistry, engineering, mathematics, physics, or related disciplines.
  • Experience in MATLAB and/or Python programming.
  • No prior experience in image processing or MRI is needed but enthusiasm in independent research is highly desirable.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
