Position Summary

 

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Washington University School of Medicine has an immediate opening in the field of imaging technology development. The successful candidate will join our effort to develop distributed x-ray imaging and proton imaging. Our goal is to provide advanced technologies for point-of-care imaging and precise image-guided radiation treatments.

 

The Advanced X-Ray Imaging Lab (AXIL ) at the radiation oncology department is developing multiple novel imaging technologies. A major recent effort was the development of distributed x-ray source, which is now commercialized through a startup company. We are continually developing novel imaging systems as well as small animal irradiators based on our distributed x-ray source technology. Besides x-ray imaging, we are also developing a novel proton imaging device, advanced image reconstruction, and proton treatment plan optimization algorithms.    

 

Washington University provides strong support to postdocs for future career development. The Radiation Oncology Department provides tuition remission for Medical Physics Certificate Program for postdocs who are interested in becoming clinical medical physicists. We also provide training in commercialization and entrepreneurship through the Translational Sciences Postdoctoral Program (TSPP) at Washington University.

Required Qualifications

 

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in nuclear engineering, physics, medical physics, electrical engineering, or other related fields.
  • Strong background in experimental physics, instrumentation and/or scientific computing and machine learning.
  • Experience with radiation detection, electronics design and proficiency in MATLAB is highly desired. 

 

Working Conditions

 

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

 

Salary Range

 

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
