What we want

The PostDoc Research Associate is responsible for conducting research projects and pursuing research collaborations in the following directions: Analyzing genetic pathways underlying chronic social isolation-induced sleep loss and determining how circadian, seasonal, disease and age factors influence these pathways. Identifying neural substrates and circuits underlying social isolation-induced sleep loss. These neural substrates and circuits will reveal (a) principles of sleep and wakefulness control; (b) molecular and circuit mechanisms underlying the passage of time during chronic social isolation. Exploring chronic social isolation-induced metabolic changes and its associated health outcomes. Developing a genetically tractable animal model to study the reciprocal relationship between chronic stress and the progression of tumor. Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education:

  • Appropriate PhD

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

  • Strong interest in sleep and circadian biology research and a strong interest in developing research skills using multidisciplinary approaches

Other Requirements or Factors:

  • Our research will train broad skills in molecular biology, Drosophila genetics, genomics and bioinformatics, metabolic analyses, instrumentation, high throughput behavioral analyses, immunohistochemical techniques, and in vivo functional imaging using two-photon microscopy

Preferred Education:

  • Ph.D. (and/or M.D. ) in biology, biochemistry, neurobiology, genetics, molecular biology, biophysics, biomedical engineering or other life science related field

Preferred Experience:

  • Research experience

Responsibilities:

  • Research Experiments - Executing research experiments and analyzing results.

  • Documentation - Maintaining an accurate laboratory notebook, writing manuscripts, presenting findings, and contributing to grant proposals.

  • Training - Training new personnel on lab procedures.

  • Lab Duties - General laboratory duties such as purchasing supplies, model organism maintenance, research equipment maintenance, maintaining a safe working environment. Performs other duties as assigned.
