Position Summary

Reporting directly to a Program Administrator in Workforce and Economic Development, the Career Navigator is responsible for providing three (3) main areas of service:

The purpose of this position is to help MCC students in workforce programs experience success through achieving their educational and career goals. This position is responsible for providing proactive advisement and student enrollment for students with declared programs; promoting academic and/or financial independence skills to students, making referrals to other appropriate program or department representatives, external agencies; and other related duties as assigned.

The Career Navigator will facilitate intake, assessment, and retention services for participants in adult education, workforce training and/or financial literacy programs. The Career Navigator will make recommendations to students and other staff concerning participant’s needs and eligibility for services.

This position will provide technical and professional services to potential and current participants, which meet intended programmatic outcomes including workshops, information sessions, orientations, and one-on-one sessions which assist students in achieving their career goals. Works closely with other staff to develop and monitor Educational Development Plans, self-sufficiency, and career plans.

Minimum Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function, duty and accountability satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Progression from Level I to II is not required.

Level I:
1. Associates or equivalent combination of education and experience in business/industry, human services, education or a related field.
2. One -Three (1-3) years of professional experience in a related role in education, human services, or business.

Level II (Starting salary 10% higher than Level I):
1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in business/industry, human services, education or a related field.
2. Three (3) years of professional experience in a related role in education, human services, or business.

Minimum Qualifications that apply to both levels:
1. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with strong oral and written communication skills.
2. Experience with administering assessment, and developing individual development plans.
3. Ability to appropriately use and demonstrate proficiency at the Basic level of MS Word and Excel.

4. Must possess good organizational skills and be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to appropriately use and demonstrate proficiency at the Basic level of MS Word and Excel, including web-based software and resources.
5. Must work with accuracy; possess good communication, written and oral and organizational skills.
6. Be able to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously with high quality and strong customer-oriented services.
7. Must be reliable and able to work independently with minimum supervision.
8. The ability to work with a diverse population, staff, and community members using tact, courtesy and diplomacy.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Possession of the CDF, GCDF, CWDP, TPM and/or BSP certification. 2. Previous experience working with grant or performance based programs with a record of successfully meeting outcomes and metrics. 3. Prior experience working with adult learners

Work Schedule

Must be willing to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays, and evenings or weekends as needed.

This position is grant funded. This grant, and consequently this position, may be terminated at any time if the grantor determines that performance measures are not being adequately met. Employee performance will be measured by the program’s successful outcomes and the appropriate documentation thereof.

In addition, as a grant-funded, non-union employee, the selected candidate’s employment is at-will and the employment relationship may be ended by either party (MCC or the employee) at any time, with or without notice.
