Position Duties
The Engineering Department at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral teaching fellow. The individual selected for this position will be part of Loyola University Maryland’s Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship, which is designed to support early career scholars from underrepresented minority groups on their path to becoming faculty members. The fellowship will provide financial support for the salaries and benefits of fellows for two years. This fellowship program is designed to provide emerging scholars with professional mentoring in teaching and research with the guidance of established faculty. Fellows will participate in a yearlong professional development program that includes internal and external support. Fellows will teach two courses per semester and conduct research and/or creative work in their chosen field of study. In addition to teaching and research, fellows will have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students and participate in the department and university life. Funds will be provided for research or travel. The fellow will attend faculty meetings, serve on a department committee, and participate in faculty/student social events.
This position is open to a broad range of engineering disciplines. Candidates whose research and teaching interests focus on engineering education, the history of science and technology, and equity in industrial engineering practices will be considered.
Strong candidates will have (1) A Ph.D. in engineering or a related field (2) a record of promise as a scholar and future faculty member; (3) the ability to teach undergraduate courses in the areas listed above; (4) the ability to create a sense of inclusion and belonging in the classroom, and to infuse multicultural content into course material as appropriate; (5) strong commitment to excellence in teaching, including an appreciation of or engagement in high-impact teaching practices; (6) ability to contribute to the Jesuit educational mission of the department and university.

Required Qualifications
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to undergraduate engineering education, and demonstrate the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. A strong commitment to excellence in teaching and a Ph.D. degree in engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university is required.
Preferred Qualifications
We seek candidates with the following:
  • Ph.D. in engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Teaching experience at the university level.
  • An appreciation and/or engagement in high-impact teaching practices.
  • Commitment to the goals of education in the Jesuit tradition.
  • Commitment to approaches for creating a sense of inclusion and belonging in the classroom.
  • Experience in mentoring and advising undergraduate engineering students or students in similar disciplines.
  • Willingness to mentor and advise engineering student clubs.
