Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Nolan laboratory is seeking an ambitious post-doctoral scientist with strong research and communication skills to contribute to high visible research projects. Your work will contribute to the development of inflammatory, innate, and adaptive host immune response to complex pathogen scenario investigations. The Nolan laboratory is home to $9 million in current funding, which supports three full-time staff, four post-doctoral scientists, eight graduate trainees, and six undergraduate students. The Nolan laboratory performs translational infectious disease research ranging from clinical surveillance to biomedical molecular studies. The Nolan laboratory actively engages with transdisciplinary faculty at the School of Medicine, College of Engineering and Computing, College of Nursing and College Arts and Sciences. Current projects include pathogen diagnostic development for infectious health disparities, novel vector-borne pathogen discovery, and immunogenomic interactions in complex biological systems. Study sites and foreign collaborators include University of South Carolina state-wide university system, Universidad de Antioquia- Boyacá, Columbia, Universidad de El Salvador-San Salvador, El Salvador, and Universidade Federal Do Acre Campus Floresta- Cruzeiro do Sol, Brazil. In summary, the Nolan lab offers exposure to a variety of faculty experts and participation in several active on-going projects.
Under general supervision of the Principal Investigator, this individual will serve as a Postdoctoral Scientist for the CDC
grant-funded project “South Carolina’s Initiative to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities Among Populations at High-Risk and Underserved, Including Racial and Ethnic Minority Populations and Rural Communities” for the purpose of answering fundamental clinically relevant immunologic and host genetic questions associated with severe COVID-19 disease and associated health disparities. This postdoctoral position offers highly competitive pay and professional development support. The position is available for minimum of 18 months with a potential 6-, 12- or 18-month extension. This position will work within a state-of-the art BSL-2 laboratory facility and might include BSL-3 laboratory study work, as warranted.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
The position requires a PhD in a field closely related to immunobiology or life science related fields by the start date of employement, with expertise in executing multiplex flow cytometry studies on Luminex 100/200 system or similar equipment.

• Excellent communicator (oral and written) with strong presentation and publication records.
• Proficient in data analysis and reporting
• Expertise in designing and performing ex vivo studies
• Ability to take initiative and work without oversight
• Understanding of flow cytometry and multiplex gene expression analysis
